How does The Howard Coble Center for Special Needs live its mission?
We wish to make each child and family of the Coble Center FEEL WELCOMED
- They will be greeted with a warm, friendly smile.
- They will see their pictures, their artwork, and their ideas, hopes, and dreams displayed and incorporated in our space.
We hope to make our youth FEEL OWNERSHIP of the Coble Center.
- We will ask our youth questions to get to know them personally and understand what they enjoy, how they like to spend their time, and what makes them feel happy.
- Based on their answers, we will plan activities, events, and social gatherings that meets their desires and wishes.
We want to give our youth INTRODUCTIONS TO THE LARGER COMMUNITY in an informal, social environment.
- By inviting guests from local schools, universities, other public community organizations, and volunteers with talents and gifts, our youth can experience all the wonderful educational, cultural, and social establishments in the larger community, and most importantly, how our special youth can be a part of these community organizations.
- They will experience musical concerts, be creative through various artistic endeavors, learn new things and be exposed to new ideas while sharing their insights and thoughts.
We wish for each youth to FEEL A SENSE OF BELONGING.
- Through social interaction and spending time together, our youth will get to know each other, make new friends, and foster relationships with other youth and supportive adults.
- They will have parties, play games, dance a little or a lot, and sometimes just visit with others to make new friends and new connections.
- They will also be introduced to others who have special characteristics like themselves to see firsthand how everyone regardless of abilities can make a difference in our community and in our world.
A special place for special people.
